Social Sciences

Why do people behave the way they do? What shapes our beliefs, relationships and life experiences?

Social Sciences explores these questions through the study of Psychology, Sociology and Child Development. By examining human behaviour, social influences and personal development, students gain a deeper understanding of themselves, the people around them and the society in which they live.

The faculty encourages curiosity, empathy and critical thinking, helping students explore the complex factors that influence individuals, families and communities.

Subjects within this Faculty

Psychology

Psychology examines the science behind human behaviour and thought. From memory and development to social influence and mental health, students investigate why people respond differently to the world around them and how psychological research helps us understand human experience.

Sociology

Society influences many aspects of our daily lives, often in ways we do not immediately recognise. Sociology explores topics such as families, education, crime and social inequality, encouraging students to consider how social structures and institutions shape experiences, opportunities and outcomes.

Child Development

The earliest stages of life play a vital role in shaping future development. Child Development explores how children grow, learn and interact with the world around them, considering the physical, intellectual, emotional and social factors that influence development.

Blending theory with practical understanding, the course provides valuable insight into the care, wellbeing and development of young children while supporting progression into a range of related careers and professions.

Key Stage 4 Revision Resources

Successful revision in the Social Sciences involves making connections between theories, evidence and real-life situations. The resources below support students in strengthening their knowledge, developing evaluative skills and preparing confidently for assessments.

Faculty Team

By exploring behaviour, relationships and society, our Social Sciences team helps students develop a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them. Staff encourage students to question, investigate and evaluate evidence, supporting them to become thoughtful, informed and reflective learners.
