Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is a welcoming space where students can read, study and work independently. It is a book place, a study space, a meeting place and a safe, supportive environment where students can develop good learning habits and enjoy reading.
Library Staff
Our LRC is run by
- Mrs Jenkinson (LRC Manager)
- Mrs Mycock (LRC Assistant)
They are available throughout the day to support students with reading choices, research, independent study, and the use of computers and photocopiers.
Using the LRC
Students can use the Learning Resource Centre throughout the school day for reading, study and independent work.
The LRC is open before school, during break and lunchtime, and for one hour after school. It is also used during lessons when required.

Friday
8:00am-4:00pm
Students are encouraged to make regular use of the LRC as part of their daily routine.
Reading and borrowing books
The Learning Resource Centre offers a wide range of fiction and non‑fiction books to support both reading for pleasure and learning across the curriculum.
Students are encouraged to borrow books regularly and take responsibility for returning them on time so that others can enjoy them. Library staff are available to help students choose suitable books and develop confident, independent reading habits.
If books are not returned, replacement costs may be added to your child’s account. Any outstanding balances will be visible in the My Child at School (MCAS) app under ‘Outstanding balances’.
Independent study and revision
The Learning Resource Centre provides a quiet and well-equipped environment where students can complete homework, revise for assessments and prepare for exams.
Students have access to books, digital resources, desktop computers and laptops to support their learning. The space is also used for lessons, Post‑16 study and EPQ sessions throughout the week.
Students are supported in developing organisation, independence and effective study habits.
Day-to-day use
Students use the LRC in a variety of ways throughout the day. This might include finding a quiet place to study, reading for pleasure, working with others or taking part in informal activities such as chess.
Library staff are always available to support students and help them make the most of the space.
Expectations
To ensure the Learning Resource Centre remains a calm and effective place to work, students are expected to treat the space with respect at all times.
Students should work quietly, follow staff guidance and use the space appropriately so that everyone can focus on their learning.
Online Library Access
Students can access the school’s library system remotely to search for books, renew or reserve items and write reviews.
School login details are required to access the system.
Enrichment and Events
The Learning Resource Centre also supports a range of enrichment activities designed to promote reading, wellbeing and a love of learning.
This includes:
- World Book Day celebrations, including quizzes, games and book token exchange
- An after-school book club for students who enjoy sharing and discussing reading
- Participation in the Staffordshire Young Teen Fiction and Carnegie Book Awards
- Author visits and live or digital events
- Trust-wide initiatives such as the JTMAT Book Mastermind Competition
These activities provide students with opportunities to engage with reading beyond the classroom and take part in experiences that support both learning and wellbeing.
