The Application Deadline Approaches

After 3 days of roadshows, myself and the John Taylor Free School team are somewhat weary but at the same time very excited and pleased by the response we have had from parents and children. Thank you to everyone who came to Hatton, Burton Library and Rosliston village hall – every event was busy with lots of parents and children full of questions about the school. We have been able to talk in more detail about the building and its’ developments, the curriculum and transition arrangements. Our uniform has been unveiled and transport routes shared. The positive response has been overwhelming, with parents and students happy that we are listening, responding and working together to ensure a positive start for our first Year 7 cohort in September 2018.

UniformAs those of you who attended the events will know, we are making our offers in the first week of February. This is so that we can plan in more detail for buses, uniform and staff. If families decide to take up our offer; the blazer, tie and skirt or trousers will be provided free of charge. To qualify for this families would need to withdraw from their Local Authority offer by 7th February. For those students on school transport routes 1 and 2, we would also guarantee a seat on the bus. Applicants have the right to wait until 1st March and receive their offer from the Local Authority but at that point, the uniform would need to be purchased via the supplier and seats on the bus cannot be guaranteed. More details can be found here.

As well as preparing our offer pack and information for parents, we have also announced our staff recruitment process. Again, we have been inundated with expressions of interest from prospective staff for the open event on 3rd February. This event is designed to share our vision and values, the curriculum on offer and ensure that anyone applying to join our team understands what a unique opportunity this is. Staff who can’t join us on 3rd February are welcome to get in touch to find out more.

It has been a real pleasure to meet so many families over the last few days. I am getting to know parents and children who are just as excited about John Taylor Free School as I am. We have had several offers of support from parents who want to be involved either through governance or PTA which is fantastic. It certainly feels as though our community is starting to form and grow and I look forward to writing to you next week as we make our offers.
